Gendered Sport Environments and Women’s Injury Risk: A Scoping Review

The Issue

Risk factors for injury are commonly attributed to athlete characteristics without considering external forces. To date, we lack critical information regarding the gendered features of the sport environment that may be contributing to increased injury risk for women.

The Aim

Summarized the existing literature describing the gendered aspects of women’s sports environments and determined whether the current literature links gendered environments to sports injuries.

The Impact

We outline our review of the existing literature, describing a range of gendered inequities in sport environments and their relationship to injury.
